The birth of DuVernay's daughter was on the 24th day of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was able to explore her artistic and creative side in her early years, thanks to Aunt Denise. DuVernay used her summers in Alabama as inspiration for her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was awarded her graduation certificate in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. In the year 1990 she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood CA. DuVernay began producing for broadcast journalism while she was in her university. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being asked examine the garbage at the home of one of jury. As a result of her tasks, she became dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the business of publicity. DuVernay joined a small studio as a junior publicist shortly after graduating from college. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency.
